Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) must adhere to a code of conduct, including providing technically correct, respectful education, not making recommendations based on personal preference, and not discriminating based on protected characteristics, while adhering to certification training curriculum and manufacturer instructions.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the policies and expectations for CPSTs:

Core Principles & Code of Conduct:

  • Technical Accuracy and Professionalism: CPSTs must provide accurate and up-to-date information on child passenger safety, delivering education in a respectful and professional manner, whether in-person or online.

  • Objectivity in Recommendations: CPSTs should not make recommendations based solely on brand preference or personal opinion, but rather on the specific needs of the family and the features of the seats that support those needs.

  • Non-Discrimination: CPSTs must not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, disability, age, or socioeconomic status.

  • Adherence to Standards: CPSTs must adhere to the Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification Training curriculum, National Child Passenger Safety Certification Program policies and procedures, and car seat and vehicle manufacturers' instructions.

  • Focus on Safety: The primary goal of a CPST is to ensure the safety of children in vehicles, and they should prioritize this over any other considerations.
